Very few people can think about giving back to society and Mahesh Jadhav is one of those people. We chat with him to trace his journey that led him to start an NGO for HIV positive kids.
Mahesh Jadhav is the ‘father’ of 46 children. At his spacious home in Belagavi, he ensures basic needs for them all, right from food to schooling. Such is the warmth here that the kids never feel the trauma of being HIV-positive. Left orphaned and uncared for otherwise, they have found their parents in Mahesh.

HIV+ बच्चों को गोद लेने की वजह से लोगों को लगता था कि महेश खुद HIV+ हैं। इसलिए वह जहाँ भी जाते उनके साथ दुर्व्यवहार किया जाता। लेकिन जब महेश को उनके काम के लिए राष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार मिला तो वही लोग उनके स्वागत में रेलवे स्टेशन पर पहुंचे।
The Government of India, Ministry of Women and Child Development selects 3 individuals from all the states and union territories every year for their exceptional work towards Child Welfare. This year, Mahesh Jadhav, founder of Mahesh Foundation Belagavi has been bestowed with this honour.
ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಮಹೇಶ್ ಫೌಂಡೇಶನ್ ಕಾರ್ಯ ಶ್ಲಾಘನೀಯ. ಮಹೇಶ್ ಫೌಂಡೇಶನ್ ಗೆ ಯಮಕನಮರಡಿ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ 5 ಎಕರೆ ಭೂಮಿ ನೀಡಿ, ಕಟ್ಟಡವನ್ನು ನಾನೇ ಕಟ್ಟಿಸಿ ಕೊಡುತ್ತೇನೆ, ವರ್ಷಕ್ಕೆ 10 ಲಕ್ಷ ರೂಪಾಯಿಯನ್ನು ಸಿ.ಎಸ್. ಆರ್ ಪಂಡ್ ನಿಂದ ನೀಡುತ್ತೇನೆಂದು ಲೋಕೋಪಯೋಗಿ ಇಲಾಖೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಉಸ್ತುವಾರಿ ಸಚಿವ ಸತೀಶ್ ಜಾರಕಿಹೊಳಿ ಅವರು ಹೇಳಿದರು.

“Many with young HIV+ kids came to our door. I didn’t want to send anybody back. In the next 6 months, I had 26 children join the family. By 2010, I was a father to 55 children!”
Gone are those dark nights,’ say residents of Sagar Nagar slum of Belgaum, thanking the Aadhaar Village Programme (AVP) of Mahesh Foundation for providing them solar lights recently.
Though he himself has little to spare, Mahesh Jadhav, 24, has adopted over 30 HIV orphan children and most of them are HIV positive.
Mahesh Foundation is a not-for-profit (NGO) working for enriching the lives of those affected by HIV/AIDS, by providing shelter to the orphans and inspiring older patients to fight the disease through various initiatives.
